Writing

Children should learn to write for different purposes and different audiences but remember if they cannot speak in sentences using good vocabulary they will not be able to write in sentences using good vocabulary. So encourage children to speak in sentences, introduce them to new vocabulary (explaining what it means) and orally rehearse what they are going to write first.
Expose children to new experiences, this has an impact on their writing too.

Kimberley's creation!

You would never believe what I found. I found a real life, living Rhinogpolmonk. It is the most dangerous and rare animal in the world. Its tail is deadly and just one hit will kill you. Its tail also has LOTS of venom in its tail and sometimes it spreads to its horn. But it is not dangerous to kill the animal. Rhinogpolmonk’s are only vicious when they think that you are trying to kill them. And there is NO way to survive an attack (as far as we know). It is actually very kind if you are kind to it. A Rhinogpolmonk is the size a normal size dog.

Here is a picture of a Rhinogpolmonk.

If you did not know Rhinogpolmonk is made out four different animals from different countries. -Rin is for a white rhino -the white rhino is the head -og is for a dog - the dog is the body -pol is for a polar bear -the polar bear is the legs -and monk is a woolly spider monkey -the woolly spider monkey is the tail

You would think that if some of its body is furry it all should be furry. Interestingly the Rinogpolmonk has fur on its body, legs and tail but not much at all on its face.

They LOVE to eat other animals and their favourites are rabbit, birds and badgers. Sometimes and VERY rarely they eat grass, leaves, flowers and bark from the trees. They DO NOT eat people, but they do kill you! Although it is as small as a dog, they eat A LOT!

The population of the Rinogpolmonk is about 5 alive that the scientists say. But sadly, I overheard that the scientists are going to gather them up and test them and some of the tests can kill them.

You can find them in the countryside, but they hide.

Kimberley has created her own animal. Fantastic work !

Meet the TA!

Hello everyone. I am Mrs Mackintosh (or for short Mrs Mack) I am really looking forward to seeing you all and being your HLTA & Teaching Assistant in September!

I know it may feel a little strange to be back in school but don’t worry, we will work as a team to support one another and get through it.

As some of you know, I teach french and art  in school but did you know I love to bake?!

Baking is my preferred pastime at the moment. I bake a variety of cakes and cheesecakes, which the staff and children throughout school will say are quite delicious!
Especially the staff as they are my cake tasters! I’m sure they don’t mind!
I even entered my first competition, the Carlton Fete Bake Off 2020!
I came 1st!
Always have a go, you could surprise yourself - anything is possible!

What is your favourite cake and why?

My love of art began when I was a young child myself and it has grown throughout my adult life. It will be a pleasure to help guide, support and inspire your artistic visions.

Once again, I’m really looking forward to seeing you all in September, keep safe and well.

Mrs Mackintosh

Meet the TA!

Hello, I'm Mrs Gay and I will be your Teaching Assistant in Red Kite Class, working alongside our new teacher Miss Craven.
What a strange year this has been so far! I have really missed lots of your smiley faces and can't wait to see them again in September.
In January it will be my fourth year at CPS, time has flown by! Before Carlton I worked in a primary school in Lincolnshire and previous to that a very small school in The Yorkshire Dales.
My spare time at home consists of working and training my 5 Gundogs, feeding and caring for my 2 sheep, chickens and my Guinea Fowl. As you can tell, I LOVE ANIMALS!
My dream is to own some Alpacas, one day my dream might come true...
If you had a dream pet, what would it be and what would you call it or them?
I would  like to wish you a wonderful summer holiday and a safe return in September, when I can see you in class and Forest Schools again. Until then, keep smiling 😀

Summer Week 7 (2nd Half term)

Hi everyone. It's hard to believe that this is the last week of the school year. I hope you are all doing ok.
Here is the final week of work for you to have a go at. Later in the week I will post some ideas of things you could maybe do over the holidays.

Please click on the link below to access this week's daily maths activities.

(Please ensure you click on the Summer week 10 activity.) There are 4 daily lessons

Weekly English Tasks (plus daily reading)

⭐Complete your All About Me writing and send it to your new teacher

⭐Talk to someone at home about all the questions you have about when you return to school next year. Now see if anyone at home can answer any of them. Next write up the questions (using a ? at the end) and you can either email them or bring them to school in September so your teacher can try to answer them in your first week back.

⭐Can you make up a story and use either your new teacher or your school friends as the main characters? First plan out what will happen at the beginning, middle and end (Story planning sheet), then explain this to someone at home, finally write the story up.

Hello to your year 6 teacher!

Hello, my name is Miss Craven and I’m going to be your new teacher in year 6 from September. I’m really looking forward to meeting you all and having a great year of working as a team!

I’m sure lots of you are feeling a little apprehensive about coming back to school in September after the odd year we’ve all had but don’t worry, we’ll work together to adapt and change anything we need to and hopefully have a great adventure along the way. This is going to be my first year at Carlton-in-Snaith Primary School so I’m counting on all of you to prevent me from getting lost and show me how all the different routines work.

Before working in Carlton I have worked in a few different schools in Selby, Castleford and Wakefield. I have lived in Selby since I was your age and I grew up in Thorpe Willoughby. When I’m not in school I like to spend time with my friends eating nice food. What do you like to do with your friends? I also enjoy taking my little black pug Enzo for walks when the weather is nice, he especially likes the beach. Do you have any pets? My other hobbies include baking nice treats!

I have heard that usually we would get to spend a morning getting to know each other but unfortunately this year that won’t be able to take place. I wondered if you could write an ‘All about me’ like this with a picture of yourself so I can get to know you a little before we start and hopefully try and get to know some of your names.

When you have done it you can either email it to Mrs Burton (MrsBurton2020@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk) who will pass it on to me or you can drop it off in school and I can pick them up next time I’m in.

Really looking forward to seeing you all in September and having an exciting year together, but until then keep safe and write to me instead.

You should be well underway with your research about the churches in our local area. this week you could maybe go and take some photographs of each of the churches and then create a poster with your images. try to get different views of each one.
Do you spot any differences?
Are there things that one of the churches has that the others don't?
