Niamh's story

They live beneath the roots of a tree in a very quirky but elegant way. They use all things natural for furniture, mushrooms for tables and chairs, straw what they collect from the farmers’ fields, at night for their beds, bright autumn leaves for bedding and flower petals for rugs. To brighten up their house they use beautiful little solar lights. Within the forest, beneath each tree lives another little family in their own unique house.
The Small Folk choose to live underground and only come out at night as they are nocturnal mythical creatures who are scared of the giant’s which live above.
Every little girl dreams of having a real-life fairy to play with, which ,you have now found out the Small Folk are! That’s why they are mythical creatures. Dad fairies work all night foraging for food and materials for clothing, mum fairies say at home making clothes for all the family. This could be up to 6 fairies in each tree. They also make sure that food is on the table for when the children come home from school (in the Big Oak Tree) and dad finishes for the night.
Each fairy has their own pet which could by butterflies, ladybirds, bees and fireflies. Even though every fairy has their own set of fragile, silky wings they also use their pets as transport.
The small folk adult grows as tall as 11cm and when new born the babies are as small as 1cm. They all wear clothes which are camouflaged to help protect and hide them in the forest from the giants. Each family keeps themselves to themselves but help other small folk when in danger and in trouble.

Niamh produced this lovely writing for the 'Small folk' blog task.
Well done Niamh.

Small folk

SMALL FOLK

Question time!

Who do you think they are?
What do they look like?
Why do you think they like ‘staying out of the limelight’?
Why do they choose to live underground?
How many of them do you think live in this house?
What is it like inside?
Do you think there are other houses like this? Where are they?

Story starter!

They had lived there for as long as he could remember. Generations and generations passed, but very little changed. They kept themselves to themselves, hidden away from the world. Solitary, peaceful, different: they enjoyed staying out of the limelight. They enjoyed letting others be the centre of attention.
They were strange folk in a way, small and strange. However, they were also very, very interesting. These small folk were entirely unique, as you are about to find out…
Can you write a story about them?

Perfect picture!

Imagine who/what might live inside this house. Can you draw them?
Are there other houses like this? Can you draw one? You could perhaps draw what one of the rooms inside might look like!

Vikings Week 1

In school we would have been finding out all about the Vikings this term.
This week I would like you to choose one or two tasks from the list below.

2) Print off a map of Europe and show where the Vikings came from and where they invaded and settled.
3) Create a Viking timeline- showing key events during the Viking era in Great Britain.
4) Create a poster containing details about who the Vikings were and where they came from.

Easter holiday work

Easter holiday learning

We suggest that over this 2 week period each child does the following :

  • Daily physical activity (keeping safe and follow social distancing guidelines)
  • Keeping  a journal (A good sized paragraph). Taking photos of any games, tasks they do, writing a  paragraphs about their day etc.
  • Daily reading – solo reading,  being read to, reading to someone, audiobook,
  • Practising timetables (e.g. TT rockstars)
  • Visits to the class and school blogs – adding comments to existing posts and accessing links to other recommended websites from the links on these pages.
  • Household chores and jobs
  • Enjoy some downtime and free play
  • Writes letter, make calls, zoom/skpye/facetime  etc. to friends and family members – virtual social contact is important for us all!

We will not be setting any further work over the 2 week ‘Easter Holiday’, but of course you can continue to exhaust the home learning packs and previous homework menu if you wish.

After Easter/ from Monday 20th April  we will be then sending some further tasks out for children to complete at home.

Please note that during the Easter period I am advising staff to also have some quiet time with their families and loved ones (other than on duty in school, when we are opening for children of key /frontline workers). Therefore email correspondence  and blog posts may well not be responded to until 20th April.
