OUSE CLASS BAKE OFF
This half term out topic would have been titled 'Imagine'. I would like you to spend this half term designing and making a cake which represents you. Before you do any baking at all you first need to plan and design your cake. So this week your task is to come up with a drawing of your design. Let your imaginations run wild. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Picture news -
Virtual Assembly link 1st June

Story: There has been a huge increase in people wanting to work in the healthcare sector recently.

Question:  Why do people choose the jobs they do?

Ongoing project

This half term we thought it would be nice to do some research about an aspect of our local area. We decided that the 3 churches and their history would be a great project. We would like you to find out about them and present your work in an interesting, exciting way. We particularly would like you to look at how each church is similar /different. You could maybe talk to people who attend these churches and ask them what it is like and the things that happen during their services. Find out about the Catholic, Anglican and Methodist branches of the Christian faith. They will have things that are the same and some things which are very different. You could maybe do a painting/drawing or model of one of them too.

(If anyone has their Hero projects completed , don't forget to email them to me at:-                mrs longfield2020@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk )

Happy Half Term

This week would have been half term in school so there will be no class blog with lessons for you to complete.
You can still obviously work on your times tables and reading or complete any tasks already set if you want to, but we really hope you spend lots of time this week playing and having fun.

Carry out some random acts of kindness

1. Make your brother or sister’s bed for them.
2. Clear the table after dinner without being asked.
3. Send a letter to your grandma or granddad, or a relative you don’t see very often. Write it by hand, not on the computer!
4. Read your little brother or sister a bedtime story.
5. Pour the rest of your family a drink at mealtimes.
6.Draw your mum or dad a picture, just because you love them.
7. Try to pay someone a compliment every day – for example, you could tell them they make you laugh, or they’re a good friend, or that they’re brilliant at drawing.
8. Paint rocks with pretty pictures or positive sayings and hide them in your neighbourhood for other children to find.
9. When you go shopping with your mum or dad, choose an extra item of food to donate to a food bank.
10.Smile and say hello to people you pass when you're out exercising
Do a jigsaw or play a board game
Find a book to read and enjoy as a family
Camp out in your garden or living room
Hold a Teddy Bear's Picnic
Help to make a meal for your family

You can still send me photos of the exciting things you are getting up to-it's so lovely hearing from you all.
Take care and stay safe
love from Mrs Longfield xx

TT Tockstars World Record Attempt

Hello to all of our wonderful children at Carlton-in-Snaith Primary School! I have received a letter from Bruno at TT Rockstars and I thought I would share it with you.

Now, I always say we should aim high but even if you don't quite manage the super tough world record of over 150 in a single studio game, we would love to see your efforts. See how close you can get, can you beat your highest score?

As Bruno explains, studio games include all of the times tables and associated division facts but as I regularly tell the children in Calder Class, it doesn't matter if you get any wrong- just keep going and see how many you can get right! Before you know it, you'll be getting higher and higher scores. Don't forget Percy Parker to help you learn the tables too (find him on YouTube) the songs are super catchy!

Send us your best efforts for us to share on our blogs :) or if you think you can beat the world record, send your video to the link below!

Guess what!?
Times Tables Rock Stars have gotten in touch with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS After some conversations they have created a new title - "the highest score achieved on ‘Times Tables Rock Stars in one minute!"
To make an Official Attempt, players need to record a video of themselves achieving their highest score in the Studio* and send the video to support@mathscircle.com by 23:59 UK time on 4th June 2020.
Read Official Attempt criteria in full

The highest scores we've seen over the years have been 150+ in a single Studio game so we know the standard for this global title will be high.
Time to get rockin' during lock-in!
Bruno
*Studio games go up 12×12 and include corresponding division facts.

Book of Hopes

Award-winning children’s author, Katherine Rundell, has  launched The Book of Hopes: Words and Pictures to Comfort, Inspire and Entertain Children in Lockdown
You can find the book on the link below.
Completely free for all children and families, the extraordinary collection of short stories, poems, essays and pictures has contributions from more than 110 children’s writers and illustrators, including Lauren Child, Anthony Horowitz, Greg James and Chris Smith, Michael Morpurgo, Liz Pichon, Axel Scheffler, Francesca Simon, Jacqueline Wilson – and Katherine herself.
The Book of Hopes aims to comfort, inspire and encourage children during lockdown through delight, new ideas, ridiculous jokes and heroic tales. There are true accounts of cats and hares and plastic-devouring caterpillars; there are doodles and flowers; revolting poems and beautiful poems; and there are stories of space travel and new shoes and dragons.
The collection is dedicated to the doctors, nurses, carers, porters, cleaners and everyone currently working in hospitals.

Reading for pleasure

Children being exposed to books beyond which they can read is an important part of the curriculum, so at school adults regularly read to the children.
It inspires imaginations, models how to use fluency and expression when reading, introduces new vocabulary, supports comprehension plus many, many more things.

Here is a link with books read aloud for the children to follow and listen to.

There are also lots of books for you to read on the link below.
